Yes... I pet her...

It's been a while since I've stepped back in time for you all... so today I've decided to share with you one of my more embarrassing moments.
Back in my younger days when my friends and I would go out typically at least one person would be crashing at my place (as I'm the city girl and for some unknown reason they all lived out of the loop).  Well back then I only had a one bedroom apartment.  So... if someone stayed over they were either sleeping with me (no worries... I had a queen size)... or they were couching it.  As you can imagine the couch didn't get used a lot.
This particular night my friend Diane and I had been out boozing it up.  Diane and I were friends... but I wouldn't say she was one of my closest friends.... which makes this story THAT much more embarrassing.  So after the stuffing our faces with Whataburger we made it back to my casa.  Well being unattached at the time I really wasn't used to anyone else sleeping in my bed with me... other than my cat Muffin.  Muffin went through phases of where she liked to sleep.  She'd find a spot... and that would be her spot for a couple months til she got bored with it and wanted something new.  Some of her chosen locations... at the foot of the bed... curled up behind my knees... under the covers (ala the spoon) and on my pillow above my head like a hat.  Well during this particular time period the chosen spot was on the pillow next to me.  After a couple weeks I had gotten into the habit of throwing my hand over there and petting her while she slept.  It wasn't a conscious thing... it just happened.  Well obviously on that night Muffin had to scout out a new location because Diane's head was laying on her coveted pillow.  No biggie... Muffin didn't mind sharing me with humans... just not other cats.  At some point during the evening my ritual petting began... and when I woke up I was literally petting Diane's head!  I swear I almost shit myself I was so freaked out!  I quickly withdrew my hand from her head and surveyed the situation.  Lucky for me Diane was out cold.  She didn't even flinch when I was petting her... thank goodness!
So after that I rolled to my other side and tucked my hands between my legs to keep them at bay.  I had a really hard time getting back to sleep that night.  My mind just kept wandering wondering if she actually was awake and was just faking sleep because she was totally freaked out too and didn't know what to do.  However eventually I was able to drift back to sleep.
The next morning after we both woke up I asked how she slept... she said good.  Then I just kinda gave her the eye trying to figure out if she knew or not.  Finally I just had to ask.  So I said... so did you feel anything weird last night?  She's like no, why?  I said because I woke up in the middle of the night and I was petting your head!  Luckily she didn't turn and run and think I was some super freak... but we both got a really good laugh out of it!
